Let’s start the year with an honest look at how the court reporting profession has evolved, where it stands today, and where it’s heading. Together, we’ll examine the forces shaping the industry, from emerging technologies to certification standards, and how these changes affect the essential role reporters play in preserving access to justice.
As the kickoff to our new series-based CEU program, this session will also introduce our Veritext Partner Engagement team, who will play a key role throughout the year in reinforcing best practices, strengthening community trust, and supporting partners across every method of capture.
The session will highlight the continued importance of human skill, judgment, and integrity in maintaining an accurate, impartial record, while setting the tone for a year focused on growth, collaboration, and clarity. We’ll conclude with an in-depth Q&A designed to encourage open dialogue and create space for shared insight as we begin this learning journey together.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the broad trends, pressures, and emerging influences shaping today’s court reporting landscape, including workforce shifts, technological evolution, and the growing impact of access-to-justice concerns on daily practice.
- Identify the essential responsibilities and professional behaviors that safeguard the accuracy, integrity, and neutrality of the record, and articulate why the reporter’s role remains central despite ongoing changes within the legal environment.
- Explain how evolving professional standards, ethical expectations, and certification requirements contribute to long-term competency, accountability, and preparedness within the reporting profession.
- Evaluate common industry misconceptions and narratives using fact-based context, and apply this understanding to participate more confidently and constructively in professional discussions about the state and future of the field.
- Reflect on how the profession has evolved over time and recognize opportunities for continued growth, adaptability, and skill development, particularly in response to the changing needs of litigants, attorneys, and the justice system at large.
