After an extraordinary career dedicated to education, mentorship, and advocacy, Jan Ballman is retiring. Jan’s impact on this profession is felt far beyond her years of service. Through her leadership, she has inspired countless professionals and helped pave the way for the next generation.
Her commitment to positivity, understanding, and pride in the profession reflects everything Court Reporting and Captioning Week stands for. We are deeply grateful for her contributions and the profound impact she has had on numerous professionals throughout her career.

Connecting with students in person is a great way to introduce them to the profession and answer questions firsthand. Look for upcoming school visits or career fairs in your area, and reach out to your state or provincial association for guidance and support. When attending events, be sure to bring helpful materials to share.

Mentorship plays a powerful role in shaping the next generation of professionals. Consider reaching out to a court reporting school or program to see if they are looking for mentors, or connect with your local association to be paired with new reporters entering the field. Sharing your experience, guidance, and encouragement can make a lasting difference.

Social media is a powerful way to raise awareness and spark interest in the profession. Your perspective could be the encouragement someone needs to take the first step.
