TURN AWARENESS INTO ACTION

This year, Mental Health America is challenging us to take action for ourselves and our community with its theme of “Turn Awareness into Action. “NAMI, or the National Alliance for Mental Illness, has the theme of ‘In Every Story, There’s Strength.” The two themes tie together. When we share our stories, we help build up ourselves and everyone around us. We quickly find out that we are not alone in our struggles.

Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in the U.S. since 1949. Every year during the month of May, we join together in a national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Together, we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support the millions of people in the U.S. affected by mental illness. Source.

ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK | CANADA

Every year since 1951, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has hosted Mental Health Week in the first full week in May, making this the 74th year.  The theme this year is ‘Unmasking Mental Health. This May 5 -11, the CMHA is encouraging people across Canada to help remove the stigma by sharing their stories and looking beyond the surface of a person struggling and see the whole person.
